Aromatherapy massage combines gentle massage with essential oils chosen for their scent and their effect on how you feel. It is one of the most relaxing treatments on offer, and a favourite for stress relief.
The therapist blends a small amount of essential oil into a carrier oil and uses it for a smooth, flowing massage. The oils are absorbed through the skin, but the biggest effect usually comes from breathing in the scent, which can shift your mood and help you relax. Common oils include lavender for calm, peppermint for a refreshing lift, and eucalyptus for a clear, invigorating feeling.
Tell your therapist what you are after β relaxation, energy or relief from a stuffy head β and they will suggest a blend. If you have allergies, sensitive skin, asthma or are pregnant, mention it before the session, as some oils should be avoided in those cases. A patch test is always an option if you are unsure how your skin will react.
The massage is usually light to medium and very calming. You may notice the scent lingering pleasantly afterwards, and many people sleep unusually well that night.
